lissa barber

Lissa grew up in the times of compelling photojournalism in the 1960’s and ‘70’s. The scenes and faces influenced her to seek out journalism, and later, photography, as a career. She graduated from Ohio University with a journalism degree, but quickly found her writing jobs morph into photography jobs. In her early career, Lissa worked as an industrial photographer for Lodge & Shipley in Cincinnati, Ohio. At that time, few women were working amongst machines in industry. 

The sport of climbing brought Lissa west. She first settled in Jackson, WY where she ran a camera shop on the town square. Lissa then moved to Bozeman in the mid eighties, became a mother, and started her own studio doing black and white maternity photography. In time, she took on a variety of portraiture work and, later began traveling to photograph Cuba, which by far is her favorite country.
